How we score tools

A tool page shows an editor score only after Tama has reviewed the tool. Reviews are in progress; until then, no tool page shows a score. This page explains what the score out of 10 measures and when it changes.

What the score measures

An editor sets the score when they write a tool's page. It sits in the “Our take” card, next to a short summary. The score weighs four things:

Fit for indie teams
Does the tool suit a solo founder or a small team in price, setup, and scope?
Pricing clarity
Are the prices public, and can you tell what you will pay before you sign up?
Docs quality
Can you get started and solve common problems from the vendor's own docs?
Lock-in
How hard is it to export your data and move to another tool?

The score is one editor's view. It is not an average of user reviews.

When a score changes

A score changes when a tool's pricing, features, or docs change and we update its page. The “Last updated” date on the page shows when that happened.

What money cannot buy

No vendor pays for a score. Paid placement through Boost or Sponsor never changes a score. Listing a tool is free. The affiliate disclosure explains how the site earns money.

Tools without a score

Some tools arrive through an automated feed. They have no score until an editor writes their page.
